Parents

We understand it's important as a parent/guardian to know what technology your kids are using, and to make sure it's as safe as possible.

playPORTAL Account

Teens and adults may register their own accounts to login to the app. Parents must register their children for a playPORTAL Account. This allows parents to consent for their child's use of the app. PlayPORTAL provides a parent dashboard in the app where parents may approve who and what their kids connect with through the app and platform. After activating the parent dashboard in the app, you can create playPORTAL accounts for each of your children.

playPORTAL Login

Your child uses the secure playPORTAL login credentials you created for them to login to the playPORTAL and other apps that use the playPORTAL single sign-on.

Add Friends

Your kids can search and add friends from the playPORTAL app. You will be required to approve each friend request. It takes both your approval, the friend's approval, and then the friends parent's approval to create a friendship.

Proximity Friending

If proximity friending is allowed for your child, they can friend other playPORTAL users in their physical presence using sound codes. These friendships are auto-approved since the child is already in physical proximity (sound range) with these users, however, parents can unfriend these users for their child as necessary.

Secure Messaging

PlayPORTAL allows kids to chat with their parent approved friends. Parents - you can chat with your kids and monitor the chat between your kids and their friends. See how to monitor chat here. Parents can also chat with other parents, even parents of pending friend requests. This is important because it lets you chat with a parent and verify how a friend requestor knows your child before you let them be friends. See here for how to chat with other parents.

Create and Share Magic Messages

Kids can create and post Magic Messages. These Magic Messages are shown to your child's parent-approved friends for 24 hours. Kids can watch a Magic Message twice before they disappear. Parent have 30 days to review and monitor the Magic Message their child has shared. Parents - please talk to your kids about appropriate digital content for posting in Magic Messages. Remember to not share personal information. Also, please review with them that messages can be screen captured, saved in a database, and you even have access to them for 30 days, so just because they are "disappearing," does NOT mean they are permanently gone.

Brand Friends & Communities

Kids can become friends with a brand character or join a brand community. Brand will be automatically approved for you, however, you can unfriend them for your child as you wish. Brands can only share Magic Messages to your child for viewing and cannot chat with your kids.

Apps and Toys

The playPORTAL app allows you to approve the apps, games, and toys on the playPORTAL platform that want to use your kid's profile and/or friend list for interactive play. If the app is a "playPORTAL zero data" app you do not have to approve your child's use of the application since it that app is not collecting, storing, or sharing any additional personal information on your child.

FAQs

Why do you charge me to verify my identity as a parent?

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires us to verify you are an adult by using a credit card transaction, in-app purchase, or signed permission slip. It is important for us to make sure you are an adult for the security of your child on playPORTAL, a Dynepic, Inc platform and app.

How does playPORTAL keep unwanted people from messaging my child?

playPORTAL requires both your permission as the child's parent, their friend's, and then the friend's parent's approval before a child can create a friendship on playPORTAL. The friend's parent is the last approval so if the child accepts a friend request that you wouldn't allow, you can use this as a teachable moment with your child to discuss who you should connect with online.

Why do you need my child's birthdate?

We need to keep track of how old your child is so we know what privacy laws apply to them. We will also use this to provide fun birthday content.

How do I add another parent (or guardian) to manage my children?

Right now you will have to use the same credentials to manage your child with playPORTAL. We are working to add a feature to allow multiple guardians to login with their own playPORTAL credentials. Feature is coming soon.

As a parent, can I talk to a child's friend without being friends with them?

No. For security reasons, as a parent you can only monitor your child and their friend's chat history. Parent-to-parent chat allows you to chat with parents of your child's friends.

Can a user over 13 years old connect with my child?

Yes. Children who are over 13, can create a playPORTAL account. They will need to have a valid email address to create their own "Over 13" account. If they friend request a child under 13, it will still require the friend's parent to approve the friendship to keep everyone safe online. Note if proximity friending is allowed for the under 13 user, the parent approval is bypassed but parents are still notified of the friendship and can unfriend the user for their child as required.

Can I restrict camera use on the app?

If you are a parent of a child under the age of 13, you can manage if they can use the camera on the playPORTAL Parent Dashboard. Click on their profile and then click on the settings in the upper right hand corner. If you turn off their camera, they CANNOT post Magic Messages and they cannot update their profile images.

Can I remove my profile or my child's profile from the "Add Friends" page?

Yes! Go to 'Settings' for your account and change your 'Searchability' to 'Family Only.' A child's Searchability is set by their parent under the Parent Dashboard child 'Settings' screen. With "Family Only" search, can can only interact with your current family and approved friends. Your profile will not be shown when other users search the platform to add friends. Additionally your image will not be shown as a friend on other user's profiles.

How does my under 13 year old child add friends if I list them in "Family Search" mode.

If you allow "Proximity Friending" your child can add friends even though their profile is not searchable on the playPORTAL platform. With proximity friending your child can send a sound-code to another playPORTAL user they are in close proximity with. The idea behind proximity friending is that if you allow your kids to interact in the physical world together then likely you are okay with them interacting under your parent supervision online. As a parent you can still un-friend any of your child's friendships you don't approve of and we recommend talking to your child about who they are allowed to friend.

Why is the Android app not showing my friends?

Currently the Android application only allows users to create their playPORTAL account in a family only search mode, activate a parent dashboard to add kid's accounts, and allow users to open platform apps.
